Study Skills for Success

Time
·         Construct a long-term schedule (job,class,church,meetings,sporting events)
·         Construct a weekly schedule of school work (quizzes,papers,tests.assignments)
·         Construct a Daily Schedule (specific times & tasks)
Environment
·         Set a specific place for studying
·         Make sure it is quiet and free of distractions
·         Creating a relaxing study environment will allow you to concentrate
Acronyms
·         The use of acronyms can be helpful when a list of facts or a sequence of items must be remembered
Motivation
·         Set goals for yourself
·         Acknowledge personal issues that may be hindering your motivation and work to move past those issues
·         Plan rewards for yourself if you meet your goals
Note-taking
·         Cornell Style
·         Outline Style
·         Chart Method
·         Map Method
·         Sentence Method
Editing
·         Edit notes a.s.a.p. after a lecture or a class for maximum retention
·         Underline key statements
·         Use asterisks/symbols to indicate importance
·         Create a summary
Rituals
·         Strengthen your ability to concentrate by selecting a personal symbol that you can attribute to studying.
·         Select one particular article of clothing, like a scarf or hat, or a little figurine or totem. Just before you start to study, put on the cap, or set the totem on your desk.
·          Keep them just for studying.
